Genesis 6:19 vs Genesis 7:2 about animals on the ark
- Genesis 6:19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
- Genesis 7:2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.
God gave a general instruction in Genesis 6:19 to bring two of every sort of every living animals, and an additional specific instruction in Genesis 7:2 to bring seven pairs of clean animals. Clean animals are animals meant for a religious sacrifice / burnt offering, as described in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14:3-20. There are no contradictions here, because God did not say “ONLY two” in His general instruction in Genesis 6.
